When in the course of human events it becomes necessary...
Thanks, Thomas Jefferson, for the introduction. So begins the Declaration of Independence and so I find myself thinking for many years now that our humanity must change course. In many respects we need to reverse our traditional trends of take and waste. Fossil fuel use is more like an addiction than a technical wonder. Plastic is a mistake, not an answer. Education is for the innovation and development of humanity as a whole, not for indoctrination. Competition is for struggling together in a non-zero sum game.
This thing called humanity has such wonderful potential but it's current tendencies are so destructive. What to do? Since memes form the creative language packages of innovative ideas, it seems useful to develop memes of positive development. I like thrivability as a good starter. It avoids the pitfalls of only being less bad.
Sixth extinction episode is here. Can we steer clear of it before we reach some irreversible dead zone? Empathic civilization is needed. A gifting economy and paying it forward and a^n eagerness to share joy: these behaviors we need to adopt.
Peace and love are hard to bear but so needed.
